Methods of Implementation
To achieve the objectives of Phase 1, the Maitreya Healthcare Project will develop:
- a general allopathic medical clinic.
- a general complimentary medical clinic of various modalities including homeopathic, Ayurvedic and Tibetan medical services.
- a mobile health programme serving the villages that surround Kushinagar.
- a rehabilitation programme caring for persons disabled by polio and other neurologic disorders.
- an orthopaedic workshop for the fabrication of assistive devices for use in the rehabilitation programme.
- a Women’s Health Service offering primary care for women, specifically targeting underserved villages.
- improve access to health information & health services for women, adolescent girls & children.
- empower women and adolescent girls to achieve improved self-determination around issues of health.
- an integrated village based health and development programme, focusing on developing the capacity of a local health committee to promote village health and training of a small cadre of health workers.
- a small inpatient unit (30 beds) which provides extended care for persons requiring:
- wound management.
- ongoing physiotherapy.
- nutritional rehabilitation.
- management of other chronic diseases.
- strategies for population stability among our target population.
- clinical services such as x-ray, cardio-respiratory monitoring, pathology laboratory and basic surgical procedures.
- a case management programme for persons with multiple drug resistant tuberculosis (MDRTb), Diabetes, HIV infection, and other complex medical problems.
- an HIV/AIDS Peer Support Group.
- improved access to counselling for HIV and other trauma cases when required.
- health awareness and healthcare education within the local population and local medical workers including:
- a focus on up-to-date procedures and treatment.
- distributing health charts.
- holding health education talks in villages.
- development of engaging approaches to health education.
- collaboration with local schools in delivering health education and awareness information.
- linkages between local health committees & government agencies able to assist committees with development plans.
- a Child Health Programme to favourably impact on health, growth & development in children under 6 years of age.
- systems to link patients to speciality care when required, and to link patients and the community in general to nutritional resources.
- services to follow existing health care programmes by effectively managing and implementing all Indian Ministry of Health immunisation and vertical health programmes.
- workshops on different health issues and with various specialists, and develop common protocols for best practice.
