Pabongka Rinpoche

Pabongka Rinpoche (1878 - 1941) was born in Tibet. He entered Sera Me Monastery in Lhasa at the age of seven and after attaining his Geshe degree, spent two years studying at Gyuto Tantric College.
Following his monastic studies he entered a ten year retreat under the guidance of his teacher Dagpo Lama Rinpoche, studying and meditating on the Lam Rim (“Stages of the Path”).
In 1921, at Chuzang Hermitage near Lhasa, Pabongka Rinpoche gave extensive teachings on the Lam Rim, based on Lama Atisha’s seminal text “Lamp on the Path to Enlightenment”.
These teachings at Chuzang Hermitage were edited by Pabongka Rinpoche’s student Trijang Rinpoche (1900 - 1981) who later became the Junior Tutor of the present Dalai Lama. In 1958 the edited teachings were printed in Tibetan. Then, in 1991 they were published in English as the modern day classic, “Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand”.
Relic and Source

- Following his death, Pabongka Rinpoche’s body was placed in a stupa in Tibet. The stupa was destroyed during China’s invasion. This bone relic was retrieved by Ribur Rinpoche, who later offered it to Lama Zopa Rinpoche for the collection.
