Objectives of the Maitreya Healthcare Project
The Maitreya Healthcare Project aims to:
- fulfil the immediate general health needs of the population.
- become a model for other community health agencies in achieving quality standards of care.
- construct the necessary infrastructure as required to service the needs of the programme.
- build upon research completed so far in order to fully plan a successful second stage implementation, including setting manageable goals for future development.
- implement healthcare programmes dealing with women’s health issues, HIV Awareness and treatment, TB treatment, health education and other common health issues.
- develop health awareness within the population, which will naturally evolve to extend to the larger population.
- forge ties and work with the local health authorities in order to compliment and expand government health initiatives.
- develop clear medical protocols for diagnosis, treatment and follow up, as well as investigate and develop computer systems for storing medical records and other important information.
- assist in government and private vaccination programmes.
- assist other NGO’s with specialist health programmes such as Eye Camps.
- establish secondary village clinics serviced by mobile units (within an initial radius of 25km). These will assist those unable to come to the primary medical facilities due to distance, inability to travel, lack of awareness of the facilities, lack of resources, etc.
- foster local support and collaboration. A critical factor in the success of the Project will be the support and cooperation of local village leaders who in turn will influence the general populace. Such support will be vital particularly in areas of preventative and curative care
